Camouflage Butterfly - 2025
Here is my entry for ArtPrize 2025, which I’m pleased to announce will be hosted in the Atrium at Uccello’s downtown.* If you’ve never been to the Atrium, or Uccello’s for that matter, both are well worth a visit anytime but even better during ArtPrize.
What I've always looked for in a photograph is a combination of color, light, and form. I also love to play with photo series and collages and assembling a vision from multiple images. I’ve been taking pictures of butterflies for years just because I love the way they embody my three favorite things. This past year though I was struck several times at the dichotomy of many butterflies; at rest they are essentially camouflaged and hide their beauty but in flight, or when they first come to rest their color and form are on full display. I found the combination of the hidden and reveal to be enchanting and for this collage I exaggerated the effect.
For fun I’ve also provided a link above to images of past entries for ArtPrize - I hope you enjoy!
* The Atrium at Uccello’s downtown is located sits in the heart of the historic Ledyard Building. You can reach the courtyard through a hall way with opening on Monroe Center next to Uccellos restaurant or at 125 Ottawa Ave.
